207. ENTERING CHRIST'S SERVICE. Kent St. Ambrose Mainzer. 1 Jesus, our best-beloved friend, Draw out our souls in pure desire: Baptize us with thy Spirit's fire. Let each thy full salvation see. 3 Our souls and bodies we resign, L.M. To fear and follow thy commands. O take our hearts-our hearts are thine, Accept the service of our hands. 4 Firm, faithful, watching unto prayer, May we thy blessed will obey; Toil in thy vineyard here, and bear The heat and burden of the day. 5 Yet, Lord, for us a resting-place, In heaven, at thy right hand, prepare: And till we see thee face to face, Be all our conversation there. 208. SETTING OUT FOR HEAVEN. 4 6s & 2 8s. Beverley Knaresborough-St. Swithin's-Evegate. 1 Jesus, at thy command, I launch into the deep, And leave my native land, Where sin lulls all to sleep: For thee I fain would all resign, And sail to heaven with thee and thine. 2 What though the seas are broad? What though the waves are strong? What though tempestuous winds Distress me all along? Yet what are seas, or stormy wind, Compared to Christ, the sinner's friend? 3 Thou art my pilot wise, My compass is thy Word; While I have such a Lord: And all my storms subside, And keep me near thy side; Far more the treach'rous calm I dread, To heaven, my destined place; 209. FOLLOWING THE MASTER. 1 Jesus! I my cross have taken, 8s &7s. All I've sought, or hoped, or known: Yet, how rich is my condition! God and heaven are still my own. 2 Let the world despise and leave me: 3 Go, then, earthly fame and treasure; Heaven will bring me sweeter rest. 4 Soul! then, know thy full salvation; Rise o'er sin, and fear, and care. Joy to find, in every station, Something still to do or bear. Think what Spirit dwells within thee; Think what Father's smiles are thine: Think that Jesus died to win thee: Child of heaven, canst thou repine? 5 Haste thee on from grace to glory, Armed by faith and winged by prayer; Heaven's eternal days before thee: God's own hand shall guide me there. Soon shall close thy earthly mission: Soon shall pass thy pilgrim days: Hope shall change to full fruition, Faith to sight, and prayer to praise. 210. THE CROSS WITH CHRIST. Salzbourg-Burton-Crediton. 1 Must Jesus bear the cross alone, 2 How happy are the saints above, C. M. 3 The consecrated cross I'll bear, Till death shall set me free, And then go home, my crown to wear,For there's a crown for me. 211. GLORYING IN THE CROSS. C. M. Newington-Durham York. 1 I'm not ashamed to own my Lord, 2 Jesus, my Lord! I know his name, Nor will he put my soul to shame, 3 I know that safe with him remains, 4 Then will he own his servant's name And in the new Jerusalem |
