MOTIONS AND RESOLUTIONS.

Mr. White offered the following resolution:

Senate resolution No. 26.

Resolved, That the Law Clerk of the Senate be and is hereby authorized and directed to purchase for the use of the Committee on Judiciary, the following:

The Detroit Legal News;

The Accumulative Michigan Digest;

Shepard's Annotations.

Pending the reference of the resolution to a committee, under the last clause of Rule 17,

Mr. White moved that the rules be suspended and the resolution be placed upon its immediate passage.

The motion prevailed.

The resolution was then adopted.

Mr. Mapes moved that when the Senate adjourn today, it stand adjourned until tomorrow at 9 o'clock a. m.

The motion prevailed.

Mr. Mapes moved that when the Senate adjourn tomorrow, it stand adjourned until Monday, at 9 o'clock p. m.

The motion prevailed.

Messrs. Bradley, Lee and Freeman asked and obtained leaves of absence for themselves from tomorrow's session.

Messrs. White, Ward and Newton asked and obtained leaves of absence for themselves from the session of Monday.

Messrs. Vaughan, Walter, Mapes, Kingman, Rosenkrans and G. G. Scott asked and obtained leaves of absence for themselves from the sessions of tomorrow and Monday.

Mr. F. D. Scott asked and obtained leave of absence for himself from the sessions of tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday.

Mr. Moriarty moved that the Senate take a recess until 2:25 o'clock p. m., the time being 2:15 o'clock p. m.

The motion prevailed.

AFTER RECESS.

The Senate was called to order by the President.
A quorum of the Senate was present.

The Senate took up the order of

REPORTS OF SELECT COMMITTEES.

The Select Committee appointed to group the Senate committees and assign rooms and clerks to the same, submits the following report and recommend its adoption:

The committee appointed to select and assign the several employees of the Senate, herewith submits the following supplemental report with the recommendation that the President of the Senate be authorized to appoint the employees named therein:

Assistant to the Secretary-Samuel F. Cook.
Stenographer-Annette Markham.

Mailing Clerk-Charles Hoffner.

Messenger-Frank A. Walter.

Mr. Vaughan moved that the report of the Select Committee be adopted.

The motion prevailed.

Mr. Newton offered the following resolution:

Senate resolution No. 27:

Resolved, That the President of the Senate be and hereby is authorized to appoint the list of employees as named in the above report of the Select Committee.

The resolution was adopted.

The President announced that the above named persons were now employees of the Senate and directed them to assume their several positions.

MESSAGES FROM THE HOUSE.

The following message from the House was received and read:

To the President of the Senate:

House of Representatives,
January 12, 1911.

Sir:--I am instructed by the House to return to the Senate the following concurrent resolution:

Senate resolution No. 7.

Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), That the customary adjournment of the Legislature for ten days for the purpose of allowing the Senate and House Committees to visit the several State institutions, be dispensed with, and that the several committees visit said institutions separately, and without official notice to the heads thereof, each committee to be accompanied by a member of the Finance and Appropriations Committee of the Senate and by a member of the Ways and Means Committee from the House.

And to inform the Senate that the House has adopted the following substitute therefor:

Resolved by the House (the Senate concurring), That the customary adjournment of the Legislature for ten days for the purpose of allowing the Senate and House committees to visit the several State institutions be dispensed with, and that the chairman of the several committees visit said institutions separately and without official notice to the heads thereof, said chairman of said several committees to be accompanied by one member of the Finance and Appropriations Committee of the Senate and one member of the Ways and Means Committee from the House, and that such visits as herein provided be made during a week end recess if possible, and then only with the consent and under the direction of the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House.

And that in the adoption of the resolution as substituted the House has concurred.

The question being on concurring in the substitute adopted by the House for Senate Resolution No. 7.

The Senate did not concur.

Mr. Collins moved that the Senate resolve itself into

EXECUTIVE SESSION.

The time being 2:35 o'clock, p. m.

Upon which motion Mr. Bradley demanded the yeas and nays. The motion made by Mr. Collins then prevailed, a majority of all the Senators present voting therefor, by yeas and nays, as follows:
