A bill to amend the title of Act No. 124 of the Public Acts of 1883, entitled "An act to authorize cities and villages to take private property for the use or benefit of the public, and to repeal Act No. 26 of the Public Acts of 1882," as amended, being sections 3376 to 3400, inclusive, of the Compiled Laws of 1915. A bill making an appropriation to purchase a site and erect buildings for a State Tuberculosis Sanatorium on a site to be selected by a committee as herein provided.

Mr. Bernie L. Case introduced

Senate bill No. 296, entitled

A bill to provide for the purchase and for the distribution by the Secretary of State of Lord's Michigan Civil Justice Guide of 1925, to authorize the purchase thereof, and to make appropriations therefor.

The bill was read a first and second time by its title, ordered printed, and referred to the Committee on State Affairs.

Senate bill No. 298, entitled

A bill to amend sections 6 and 19 of chapter 163 of the Revised Statutes of 1846, entitled "Of the Arrest and Examination of Offenders, Commitment for Trial, and Taking Bail," being sections 15670 and 15683 of the Compiled Laws of 1915. The bill was read a first and second time by its title, ordered printed, and referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

The following entitled bill was announced:
House bill No. 321 (file No. 124), entitled

A bill to amend section 2 of Act No. 183 of the Public Acts of 1909, entitled,
as amended, "An act to prohibit the taking, killing, trapping or molesting of
certain fur bearing animals at certain times and to prohibit the destruction or
the molesting of the houses or holes of certain fur bearing animals at all times,"
being section 7511 of the Compiled Laws of 1915, as last amended by Act No. 111
of the Public Acts of 1921.

The bill having been read a third time and the question being on the passage
of the bill,

Mr. Bernie L. Case offered the following amendment:

Amend section 2 line 16, after the word "any," by striking out the words "mink
or" and inserting after the word "muskrat" the words "or trap mink".

The amendment was seconded, a majority of the Senators present voting
therefor.

The amendment was then considered and agreed to, a majority of all the
Senators-elect voting therefor.

Pending the order that, under rule 37, the bill lie over one day,

Mr. Pearson moved that the rule be suspended and that the bill be placed on
its immediate passage.

The motion prevailed, two-thirds of the Senators present voting therefor.

The question then being on the passage of the bill, the roll was called and
the Senators voted as follows:

The following entitled bill was read a third time:

A bill to amend section 5 of Act No. 278 of the Public Acts of 1909, entitled
"An act to provide for the incorporation of villages and for revising and amend-
ing their charters, as last amended by Act No. 395 of the Public Acts of 1919,
same being section 2847 of the Compiled Laws of 1915.

The question being on the passage of the bill, the roll was called and the

A bill to amend sections 2 and 5 of Act No. 108 of the Public Acts of 1913, entitled as amended, "An act to license and regulate the hunting, pursuing and killing of wild animals and wild birds found in this State, except deer and beaver," being section 7527 of the Compiled Laws of 1915, as last amended by Act No. 235 of the Public Acts of 1923; and section 7530 of the Compiled Laws of 1915 as amended by Act No. 267 of the Public Acts of 1917.

The question being on the passage of the bill, the roll was called and the Senators voted as follows:

Senate bill No. 37 (file No. 286), entitled

A bill to make appropriations for the Department of Public Safety for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1926, and June 30, 1927, for maintenance and operation.

Pending the taking of the vote on the passage of the bill,

Mr. Brower offered the following amendments:

(1) Amend section 1, line 9, after the word "Enforcement," by striking out the remainder of line and inserting in lieu thereof a comma after the word "enforcement".

(2)

Amend section 1, line 12, after the word "Inspection," by striking out the figures "$300,000.00-$300,000.00" and inserting in lieu thereof the figures "$450,000.00-$450,000.00".

(3) Amend section 1, by striking out all of line 13.

The amendments were seconded, a majority of the Senators present voting therefor.

The amendments were then considered and agreed to, a majority of all the Senators-elect voting therefor.

Pending the order that, under rule 37, the bill lie over one day,

Mr. Brower moved that the rule be suspended and that the bill be placed on its immediate passage.

A bill to amend section 22 of chapter 3 of Act No. 164 of the Public Acts of 1881, entitled "An act to revise and consolidate the laws relating to public instruction and primary schools, and to repeal all statutes and acts contravening. the provisions of this act," being section 5689 of the Compiled Laws of 1915, as amended by Act No. 103 of the Public Acts of 1921.

Pending the taking of the vote on the passage of the bill,

Mr. Truettner offered the following amendments:

(1) Amend section 22, line 69, after the word "schools," by striking out the words "or such other reputable and capable person or persons as he may appoint."

(2) Section 22, line 70, after the word "shall", insert "through the teachers and local school officers."

The amendments were seconded, a majority of the Senators present voting therefor.

The amendments were then considered and agreed to, a majority of all the Senators-elect voting therefor.

Pending the order that, under rule 37, the bill lie over one day,

A bill to amend section 14 of chapter 4 of Act No. 283 of the Public Acts of 1909, entitled "An act to revise, consolidate and add to the laws relating to the establishment, opening, improvement, maintenance and use of the public highways and private roads, the condemnation of property and gravel therefor; the building, repairing and preservation of bridges; setting and protecting shade trees, drainage, cutting weeds and brush within this State, and providing for the election and defining the powers, duties and compensation of State, county, township and district highway officials," the same being section 4360 of the Compiled Laws of 1915.

A bill to provide for the construction, improvement, repair and maintenance of bridges; to provide for inter-municipal and inter-state bridges; to provide for bridges over navigable streams and for their operation; to provide for the construction, improvement and maintenance of bridges over mill races; and to regulate the altering of the stage of water, and the widening and deepening of the channel of watercourses.
