The Bank, pursuant to section 522 (c), Tariff Act of 1930, has certified for the Danish krone a nominal "Official" rate of $0.144822 and a nominal "Import Rights" rate of $0.0805023 for the period from November 21 to December 2, 1955, inclusive.

Notification that certain items in Part I of Schedule XX to the Protocol for the accession of Japan to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade shall not be withheld.

There is published below for your information and guidance the President's notification to the Secretary of the Treasury, dated January 12, 1956, that certain new rates of duty identified in items 301 [identified only as to the matter related to the rate of 56¢ per ton], 717 (c), and 720 (a) (2) in Part I of Schedule XX to the Protocol for the accession of Japan to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (T. D. 53865) shall not be withheld pursuant to paragraph 4 of said Protocol on or after January 16, 1956.

The changes in rates of duty will be effective as to articles entered, or withdrawn from warehouse, for consumption on or after January 16, 1956.

MEMORANDUM FOR THE SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY

Reference is made to my proclamation of July 22, 1955 carrying out the Protocol of Terms of Accession by Japan to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.

On December 17 Norway gave to the Executive Secretary to the Contracting Parties to the General Agreement the notification referred to in paragraph 3 of the Protocol for the accession of Japan, of intention to apply on January 16, 1956
