And also a petition to the Legislature, dated on the same second day of March, and signed Betsey Crosby, by her Attorney, Joseph Locke, as follows: "The subscriber, a proprietor in the Central Bridge, hereby requests that the prayer of Joshua Bennett and others for leave to reduce Tolls be granted."

The Committee further report, That no order of notice appears to have been issued to the Towns of Dracut or Chelmsford, or to any other corporation or individuals, but that an Act was passed, and approved March 10, 1832, authorising the said Central Bridge Corporation to reduce the Tolls which was granted by their act of incorporation, and to compound the same in all cases in which the said Corporation may deem it expedient for their own benefit and the public convenience; and that at a meeting of the Corporation, held on the 23d of April, 1832, the act of March 10th was accepted, and it was then voted to exempt from Tolls for a small consideration for ever, a quantity of land situate in said Dracut, and near the Bridge, belonging to certain members of the Corporation, for themselves, their families and servants, and for all persons who may hereafter live on the same; and to some of the persons the same freedom from Tolls was granted, live where they may; liberty was also granted on payment of small sums to other persons not proprietors in the Bridge, for similar freedom for lots belonging to them.

About seventy acres of land, situate in Dracut, and near the Bridge, has thus been made free from toll. The original cost of the Bridge was a little more than $22,000, and about $5,000 have been expended in repairs. Something more than $17,000 have been received by the Corporation for Tolls; $4,000 of which was received last year.

The Committee have finally come to the conclusion, that it is expedient that the Act passed March 10, 1832, entitled an Act to authorize Central Bridge Corporation to Reduce and Compound their Tolls, ought to be repealed.

All which is respectfully submitted.

NATHANIEL AUSTIN, Chairman.
